Did An Elderly Family Member Gift Or Leave You Some Jewelry? What To Know

Blog

If you have been given a bunch of jewelry from an elderly relative that you know you are never going to wear because it's outdated, you can make a profit off the pieces. If you are looking to get money for the items but you aren't sure what to charge, make sure you get an estimate first. Here are a few things you'll want to consider when trying to relieve yourself of the jewelry.

Estimate

Take all the pieces to a local jewelry store where they have a diamond and other gem appraiser, to see what the pieces are worth. The jewelry expert will tell you what the stones are worth, what the pieces are as a whole, and what they would list the pieces for if they sold the items in their stores. You can use this estimate if you try to pawn, sell, or trade the pieces. You may find out you have a very valuable stone you want to keep and have used in another piece.

Gold and Jewelry Buyer

Find a location that buys old jewelry for the gold. They will weigh the gold and see what the current rate is for gold, and then give you an offer for the price. This is an easy way to get cash for the ring, and to make sure that you're getting the amount that the piece is worth. This will be one of the fastest ways to get rid of the jewelry and to make a profit fast.

Online Classified or a Garage Sale

If you want to sell the jewelry pieces together, and you don't want to break the stones away from the gold, try an online classified site. You can even have a garage sale or post the pieces in online garage sale sites in your area. This is another fast way to get cash, and the jewelry will get to serve another purpose if you have some guilt about taking it apart or melting it down.

If you do decide to sell the jewelry and make a profit, calculate the taxes that you need to pay  and talk with a tax professional if you have any confusion. You want to make sure that your tax form doesn't get sent back, or that you don't get in trouble for not claiming the sale later on. These are just a few of the easy ways you can get rid of these pieces and get some money. Contact a business, such as Coins Plus, for more information.

Improving Your Home By Crafting

About a year ago, I realized that I was running out of disposable income to use for decorating my place. Instead, I was working hard to pay my bills each and every month, and it was really frustrating. Fortunately, a friend of mine suggested saving money by crafting in my spare time. I started spending a lot of time looking around my house for things to fix up or use for crafts, and it was a great use of my spare time. Within a few weeks, I had made a few great wreaths for my front door and updated the crown molding around my house. This blog is all about improving your place with a few nice crafts.
